Kian's background is in computer science, IT, and sustainability project management. He was introduced to beekeeping by founding a student organization at UCLA in 2020. He, with help from advisors from CAMBP, brought beehives to campus and developed a comprehensive beekeeping training program. When he graduated he joined CAMBP's staff.

He enjoys traveling, learning history, conservation projects, and gardening.
