Industry Support
Our primary clientele are beekeepers of all levels including commercial, side-line and backyard beekeepers. We strive to support the beekeeping industry by providing research driven solutions to contemporary issues as in our partnership with California State Beekeepers Association. However, our broader mission is to improve agriculture sustainability and stability by advising and working with other stakeholder groups. We regularly interact with growers, commodity boards such as Almond Board of California, regulatory agencies such as California Department of Food and Agriculture and California Department of Pesticide Regulation, as well as pest control advisers and pesticide applicator groups such as PAPA and CAPCA. California Master Beekeeper Program
We created this program in 2016 to provide research based education for enthusiastic honey bee ambassadors and stewards. Our goal is to support the participants in becoming more knowledgeable beekeepers and their volunteer efforts within California communities. The program headquarters is at UC Davis, but we are slowly expanding into other parts of California with San Diego Cooperative Extension Offices currently being our first satellite location. Courses and Workshops
In the past decade there has been an increased number of community members interested in beekeeping. California is home to over 35 beekeeper associations and approximately 11,000 backyard beekeepers. We offer numerous beekeeping courses for all levels and keep adding new classes depending on the interest. For those who are not able to commit to becoming a beekeeper but still want to help support pollinators, UC Davis Bee Haven garden offers workshops on Native Bee Identification and Planting a Bee Garden.
