Staff Research Associate (Laidlaw Facility Manager)
Department of Entomology and Nematology
As the research beekeeper and facility manager for the Harry H. Laidlaw Jr. Honey Bee Research Facility, Charley assists with Research in Johnson, Williams and Niño labs. His time is divided between assisting with honey bee and native bee research data collection, general colony management, and making sure the facility is available and prepared for a wide variety of pollinator research and extension needs. His responsibilities for general colony upkeep have directed his interests towards honey bee nutrition, and honey bee breeding through artificial insemination. Charley believes that while there are many qualities of honey bees that are beyond our control, making space for pollinator supportive landscapes and selecting for stronger genetics give us the best foundation for a healthy future for all pollinators.
